The Admission Process
- Before your pet is admitted, a team member will provide you with a detailed treatment plan and estimate of charges.
- If your pet is admitted through the ER, the initial treatment plan will typically outline the doctor’s plan for your pet’s care during the first 12-36 hours of hospitalization. This plan covers emergency care and stabilization, hospitalization, and basic diagnostics and treatments provided through our emergency service until your pet is transferred to a specialty service. A member of our medical team will review this with you and answer any questions you may have.
Where your pet will stay
- Your pet will stay in our intensive care unit (ICU).The ICU is a specialized and separate unit within our hospital that has life supporting technology and equipment. Here, your pet will be closely monitored by trained veterinary staff to ensure their comfort and safety. They will receive round-the-clock care and attention. Some examples of the advanced monitoring and therapy available in the ICU are blood pressure monitoring, IV fluid therapy, medication to assist with circulation, ventilation support, catheterization, nutritional support, and pain control.
- Your pet’s well being and comfort is our top priority. Your pet will be in their own kennel with appropriate bedding. Your pet will be walked, cleaned, and fed and given water according to their medical plan.
Communication & Medical Updates
- If your pet is here for a surgery or anesthetic procedure, you will receive a call afterwards with an update.
- Doctors And Nurses rounds are conducted every morning and every evening from 7 o’clock – 10 o’clock. During this time, the veterinarian in charge of the case will review the medical records and current status of each patient under their care. They will discuss the patient’s condition, treatment plan, and progress with the veterinary technicians, assistants, and other staff members involved in the case. During this time, nurses and doctors will not be available for phone calls, so we kindly ask that you do not call for updates during these times. Outside of these two windows of time each day, you are always welcome to call the hospital to get an update from a veterinary technician on your pet’s general status.
Discharge and Pickup
- Your pet’s doctor will advise when your pet is ready to be discharged from the hospital.
- When you arrive to pick up your pet, you will check in with the front desk and finalize your bill.
- Your pet’s well being and comfort is our top priority. Your pet will be in their own kennel with appropriate bedding. Your pet will be walked, cleaned, and fed and given water according to their medical plan.
Payments and Financing
- Payment methods accepted are:
- Debit Cards, Credit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express), and Cash.
- All credit/debit cards must be verified with proper identification from the owner of the card. Federal laws prohibit us from making exceptions.
- Before your pet is admitted to the hospital, a member of our medical team will provide you with a treatment plan and an estimate of costs associated with the treatment. The length of time estimated for will depend on what your pet is hospitalized for.
- For standard, elective procedures, such as orthopedic surgeries, we are usually able to provide an estimate for the pet’s entire stay.
- For patients with an illness or injury that may require frequent diagnostics with changes in treatment according to their status, we will usually provide an estimate of approximately 12-24 hours in duration. With such cases, we will keep you updated as explained in the ‘Communication & Medical Updates’ section of this document.
- A new treatment plan and estimate will be created based on your pet’s status each day. Each time a new treatment plan is provided, a member of our team will reach out to you for consent and payment. At this time, we will ask you to pay whatever the balance is on the account to bring the current balance to $0.00 plus a prepayment of the low end of the new estimate provided. Our intention is to provide transparency regarding the cost of ongoing services and to ensure that there is no large balance due at the time of pickup. Therefore, we do require these payments to be made every time the treatment plan is provided to you rather than at the time your pet is discharged for pickup.
- We require a prepayment of the low end of the estimate, but the document will display a range of diagnostics, procedures, and treatments that the doctor may perform. This means there may be a balance owed despite leaving a prepayment depending on what type of care your pet ends up needing. Your consent to the treatment plan authorizes the medical team to do whatever is necessary for your pet within that estimated range of fees. A member of our team will reach out to you if there is a drastic change in plans that will go way over the high end of the estimate. However, the treatment plan provided to you is just an estimate and should not be interpreted as the exact amount the bill will be. It is simply the doctor’s best estimate of required care and the associated charges based on the current information at hand.
